A Bio - Pharmaceutical Company is seeking a Bioinformatics Infrastructure Engineer in San Francisco, CA .

Role Description

The Research Data Sciences group conducts computational analysis of large datasets to support pipeline programs and discovery projects across therapeutics areas of oncology, inflammation, fibrosis and virology.

The Infrastructure and Predictive Sciences team within the RDS group is looking to hire a Bioinformatics Infrastructure Engineer (Contractor) to contribute to the development and maintenance of their computational research platform. The ideal candidate will have relevant engineering experience, hands-on analysis of large genomic/transcriptomic datasets and pipeline development for computational biology. The candidate will work collaboratively with computational biologists, pathologists, IT as well as discovery biologists on a range of exciting scientific problems. Their work may also contribute towards presentations, posters and journal publications.
• Collaborate with RDS and IT colleagues to enable cloud-based data management platform
• Develop and maintain workflows to enable ingestion, access and analysis of data to accelerate discovery and enable decisions across research groups
• Collaborate with IT to maintain compute infrastructure that allows RDS scientists to process and analyze internally generated and/or externally acquired NGS and other large datasets
• Collaborate with RDS colleagues to develop new genomic pipelines and implement them as scalable workflows on the cloud
• Develop data analysis and visualization tools to enable research groups
• Contribute to data engineering efforts to organize and harmonize diverse datasets

Skills & Requirements

• A master’s or PhD in bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or MS related discipline is required with 3+ yrs relevant Bioinformatics experience
• Proficient in statistical and programming languages, such as R, Python, etc. is required
• Experience in working with NGS data and developing/implementing genomic pipelines and workflows
• Experience with common public databases and data sources like TCGA, GDC, SRA etc
• Experience developing data visualization apps using R Shiny is required
• Hands on experience with high performance parallel computing environments and cloud computing systems and databases is required
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that foster collaboration and teamwork.
