Benefits Specialist (Accommodations Specialist) – Contract – Remote - $35.00-$39.00/hr

A Biopharmaceutical Company is seeking a Benefits Specialist (Accommodations Specialist).

Role Description

The Accommodations Specialist on the ER team will be primarily responsible for managing employees’ requests for reasonable accommodations and deferrals as our teams emerge from the pandemic and navigate the process of returning to normal operations and resuming in-person meetings. This role will manage individual cases and engage in the interactive process with employees in accordance with state and federal law (e.g., the Americans with Disabilities Act, California Fair Employment & Housing Act, and the Civil Rights Act), as well as company policies.

• For escalated accommodation requests, perform timely and comprehensive case management by engaging in the interactive process with employees seeking reasonable accommodations based on disability, medical condition, and religious beliefs.
• Resolve issues and coordinate with employees, HRBPs, managers, legal etc. to explore alternatives and provide employees with reasonable accommodations.
• Identify and implement proposed accommodations that are fair to employee and the organization.
• Conduct face-to-face meetings with employees and managers to understand the essential functions of the job.
• Document the interactive process and communicate accommodation outcomes to appropriate parties.
• Manage requests for extensions of accommodation timeframes and the appeal process for denied accommodations
• Monitor temporary and ongoing accommodations with defined check points and an end date.
• Facilitate arrangements and documents process for job reassignments if no reasonable accommodations can be made in the current role.
• Provide guidance and educate employees, managers and HR on complex aspects of reasonable accommodations and the deferral process.
• Maintain information/documentation in case management system to track and ensure accurate and timely case management.

Skills & Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience required. HR certification, Certified Rehabilitation Counselor certification (CRC), Vocational Rehabilitation certification and/or advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum 4 years professional experience and at least 2 years experience managing leaves of absence and/or reasonable accommodations.
• Relevant experience managing employee requests for reasonable accommodations with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act and FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act), including current experience in statutes, regulations and guidance issued by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) pertaining to ADA accommodations
• Experience managing a range of Employee Relations matters is strongly preferred, e.g. experience with performance management, internal investigations, disciplinary actions and terminations, severance, re-organizations, and HR policies and practices, etc.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, ServiceNow, and Workday.
• The position requires high technical ability and a strong attention to detail.
• Ability to manage a high volume of work
• Effective customer support skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to exercise sound judgment
