VP/Regional Controller

Primary Purpose of Position: Provide leadership and oversight of the entire portfolio accounting team. Management of all the financial, accounting, audit, financial controls and fiscal aspects of the operation of an assigned portfolio. Management of Senior Managers and Managers. Essential Functions:
  • Provide management to Senior Managers and Managers through active communication, career discussions, feedback, and performance management.
  • Provide oversight and direction to direct reports in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures.
  • Establish and develop relations with senior management, external partners and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with senior regional and corporate management to provide accounting guidance in making timely, beneficial business decisions including the review of leasing strategies and the accounting impact on FFO.
  • Establish and attend regular meetings with the Regional EVP and their teams.
  • Responsible for the oversight of hiring and training property accounting staff.
  • Participate in compensation recommendations of direct reports.
  • Collaborate with Director of IFCR to maintain policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and perform assigned internal controls over Financial Reporting.
  • Oversight of tenant operating and real estate tax escalations (monthly payments, quarterly estimates and annual true-ups).
  • Liaison to our audit teams at PwC and PKF for all REIT reporting and “stand-alone” financial packages. Provide accurate, timely information monthly and quarterly.
  • Negotiate settlement terms and provide final approval of all tenant audits.
  • Oversee and manage capital calls, construction loan draws and all reporting related to the Company’s development projects.
  • Oversee and manage reporting for assigned portfolio related to corporate accounting responsibilities.
  • Research complex accounting issues and GAAP interpretations.
  • Work closely with Budgeting to ensure forecast includes newly executed or anomalous items.
  • Provide feedback for all applicable sections of all management, development and joint venture agreements.
  • Responsible for the preparation and delivery of annual business plans and quarterly reforecasts.
  • Work directly with outside consultants, regional team and senior management to minimize region’s real estate tax exposure.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of select components of the company’s quarterly supplemental reporting package and reports to Board of Directors as required.
  • Interact with Lease Administration, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Tax, Finance, Financial Reporting and Legal Departments to maintain business operations.
  • Perform other financial assignments as directed by the CFO/CAO and other Senior Financial personnel.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the VP, Corporate Controller.
  • Attend regional Leasing, Development and Property Management meetings.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting required.
  • A minimum of fifteen years comprehensive accounting experience required.
  • Previous accounting experience in commercial real estate settings or related industries required.
  • Previous supervisory experience required.
  • Exemplifies proven leadership skills by showing initiative, serving as a role model, demonstrating accountability and a shared sense of commitment to the organization.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Self-starter capable of finding solutions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to interact with co-workers, tenants or vendors in an articulate, courteous and professional manner.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.

  • Knowledge of JD Edwards accounting software desirable.
Physical Requirements:
  • Involves travel.
  • Involves work of a general office nature usually performed sitting such as operation of a computer.
  • Involves work of a general office nature usually performed standing such as operation of a fax and printer.
  • Involves work such as tours throughout property portfolio usually performed by walking and by climbing stairs.
  • Involves movement between departments to facilitate work.
Internal and External Contacts:
  • This position interacts extensively with all levels of employees within Boston Properties and with tenants and external audiences.
Reporting Structure:
  • Reports to the VP, Corporate Controller.
