A construction consulting firm is hiring a Cost Manager in San Francisco.

Hays is partnered with an American consulting firm specialized in Cost and Project Management. With 30 years of experience in the industry, and over 12 locations, you will be part of the West Coast team in San Francisco.


Your new role

The company is seeking an experienced Cost Manager / Quantity Surveyor to provide cost control and estimating services in their diverse Commercial portfolio. The market they cover include Healthcare, Education, Corporate Interiors and Luxury Retail.


Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Estimate and negotiate change orders throughout the project.
  • Produce and present the final cost plan as part of the estimate and cost planning process.
  • Collaborate with the design services team and the general contractor on developing the cost estimates.
  • Ensure the accuracy of the general contractor’s data by reconciling changes.
  • Update the cost estimate by communicating or meeting with the general contractor and the owner project manager and collecting status information.
  • Provide written feedback on the general contractor’s submissions, including an executive summary.
  • Coordinate cost information from various sources for cost discussions.
  • Drive engineering priorities based on cost impact.
  • Resolve scheduling issues proactively and with minimal supervision.
  • Perform cost checks and valuations on larger projects, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.


What you'll need to succeed

A Four-year degree and at least five years of relevant experience in Cost Management is required, and at least 8 years of relevant experience is required for the role.

It is preferred that the candidate provides experience in similar projects with a consulting or owner side company. A MRICS certificate is preferred.
